Vegan Pizza Day

Sometime last week I was trolling through the abyss of the world wide web when I stumbled upon "Vegan Pizza Day" (they even have a facebook page) What? a day devoted to Vegan pizza?  Who needs valentines day, the quickest way to my heart is through my belly  and my love for vegan pizza is meant to endure a lifetime

The goal, 3 pizza's all with unique ingrediants and completely different flavors, drenched with no less than 15 different types of hot sauce.
Why cant everyday be "VPD" Vegan pizza day?

Well, Friday I stocked up on produce and was ready to go.

It was the Eve of "VPD" and I had enough dough for 6 pies and a man's got to eat,  so I decided to start the celebration a little early.

Prelude to Pizza day
Garlic oragano dough, Grape tomato, cremini mushroom, cilantro and avocado.

Simple quick Delicious

Whole wheat dough braised with macadamia nut olive oil, bourbon barbecue sauce, onion, banana, pineapple, ginger, fresh ground cinnamon, topped with 5 types of hot sauce: Sriracha, Trappeys, Hurting Jalpapeno, Jaws of fire, and Yellow pepper sauce.

I was very pleased with combo of barbecue sauce, ginger and cinnamon.  The banana and pineapple were good but it made the pizza a bit too sweet (could of maybe used some sweet potato or some yams).  Coffee is always good with sweets and was a nice pairing

I thought every pizza would be completly unique, saving the avocado for lunch but my love for avocados out weighed my convictions
The fat in the avocado's took away some of the sweetness, it allowed me to add large amounts of hot sauce it also helped in neutralizing the duration of spice left on my tongue.
Pineapple may soon become a regular staple on my vegan pizza's
"Avocado, oh how I love thee."

It was now about 10 in the morning and I was stuffed.  The sun was beckoning me to go outside and I needed to make some room for Pizza #2.  I jumped on my strand cruiser planning on a 20-30 mile ride but less than 10 miles in I pushing to hard and snapped my chain. Change of plans.  I ended up going for a run on the beach and then a quick swim in the Pacific before returning home for round 2 p.m.

Well since breakfast was all about sweet I thought I'd go with spicy for lunch
Naked (pre avocado)

White dough braised with a light olive oil, grape tomato, 1 ear of sweet corn, green and red jalapeños, serrano, suzme pepper, onion chive, twist pepper, Korean pepper, habanero, sweet garlic and oregano pickled cherry peppers, black beans topped with fresh cilantro, avocado and raw onion. I felt this pie needed a little heat added so I used 4 of my hottest sauces (Mad Dogs Revenge, Blair's Death Sauce, Dave's Ghost pepper sauce, Da Bomb plus a bowl  verde and a bowl of fire roasted chipotle, taqueria style salsa.

After cooking I added the cilantro onion and avocado.

Surprisingly the pizza wasn't that spicy? I think I've built up a tolerance, for my roommate was almost in tears from what he explained felt like pepper spray in the air when he walked into the room I was eating in.

the salsa on top hit the spot especially the Verde variety, so much in fact I needed a second bowl of it

I couldn't have been more happy with this pizza it hit the spot perfectly also making me drink 3 Miller High Lifes in the process.

I was stuffed!  Eventually I was able to crawl on my hands and knees upstairs to my recumbent bike to make  for the 20miles I missed out on earlier.  Still needing to make room for dinner I headed out to the gym for a hour on th elliptical and some time in the sauna.  I left the gym around  9p.m.  there was no parking by my house but I had my skateboard so I could careless if I had to park far away.  I was having so much fun   skating around in my sandals I kept going passed my house and didn't arrive home for another 30 minutes.

It was after 10 p.m. when I started cooking.  (I normally eat dinner just after dark)

Garlic oragano crust, braised with extra virgin olive oil, grilled vegi bruschetta, olive bruschetta, crimini mushroom, white mushroom, bella mushroom, carrot, green pepper, basil, rosemary garlic stuffed green olive, heart of palm and radish

This was the dirty martini of vegan pizzas
The pizza was full of  flavor, each bite made me lick my lips.  The taste was robust and I polished  a couple glasses of red while I devoured it. The pizza was bold not spicy.
(at least not until I added 5 more bottles of hot sauce lol)
Final slice of the day.  I was sad to see it go.

Hair of the Dog

Although vegan Pizza day was over that didn't stop me from getting back to business the very next morning

white dough, grape tomato, 3 types of mushrooms, black beans, radish, heart of palm, red and green jalapeño, onion, carrot, pineapple, green pepper, basil, serrano topped with fresh cilantro and avocado

The best combo of the weekend
Just so you know the black beans i used came from a can i put them in a strainer and rinsed them in the sink. They added a good amount of heartiness to the pie and I highly recommend giving them a try.

Bonus snack after 30 mins after lunch
I think I should write a children's book called the "The Hungry Hungry Vegan" about 30 minutes after the pizza I was I made this snack using mostly the same ingredients. Whole wheat pita, dark lettuce, 3 types of mushrooms, radish, heart of palm, carrot, red and green jalapeño, cilantro, avocado, onion, topped with sriracha and eggplant hummus. And I was still hungry. (I loved that damn caterpillar)

I Love Vegan Pizza Day! (Weekend)
Perhaps  it shall become Vegan Pizza Week? Month? Year?

Gotta eat to live. Vegan gluttony

Pretty much all the usual ingredients just mixed up in a variety of ways
One glass of wine :)
Fresh sourdough bread, vegi bruschetta, grape tomato, mushroom, garlic and onion.  Served with salt and vinegar chips and  butternut squash soup

Vegan junk food

Hummus sandwich
Soy flax seed bread, garlic hummus, spinach, onion, tomato, cherry peppers, and olive bruschetta

Tasted pretty good but really could have used an avocado
Freshly cooked sourdough bread 1/2 olive bruschetta and 1/2 vegi bruschetta, garlic, tomato, carrot, twist pepper, garlic chives, and avocado,  dipped in hummus and sriracha.  Served with Butternut squash soup with a little fresh basil and pepper added and a bowl of bean sprouts to munch on.
I might make the same thing again tonight
the two jars of bruschetta also cost $1 . What a bargain
I still had wine in my glass so I made a second serving
Kimchi pot stickers fried in the wok with: roma tomato onion, twist pepper, ginger, suzme red pepper, carrot, garlic, organic baby greens, olive oil and a dash of ponzu

I was happy

I went to the store Sunday morning to pick up some Avocados to help get me through an afternoon of watching Football.

Chips salad 3 types of salsa an avocado, some onions, grape tomatoes and oven roasted jalapeños.
I had some crappy tortilla chips in my hand till I found these in the clearance section for half the price. S1 Organic and the don't go bad till April.  I picked up 3 bags (besides they match my poinsettia and my chia X-mas tree thats still growing)
Mixed baby Italian organic greens, onion, garlic stuffed olives, pimento stuffed olives, sweet cherry peppers, carrot, and grape tomatoes.  Macadamia nut oil balsamic vinegar and fresh ground black pepper.

By halftime of the second game I cooked myself up a pizza
Whole wheat dough, bourbon barbacue sauce, grape tomato, roma tomato, garlic, onion, ginger, twist pepper, suzme red pepper, swet cherry peppers, organic Itallian baby greens (added about 5 mins before taking out of the oven) and fresh avocado.  Washed down with the champagne of beers and some red wine.

Rosemary roll, garlic, vegi breshetta , onion avocado

after the pizza I was still hungry this roll provided the bonus gluttony

On my way to making a pizza I got side tracked : Rosemary roll, grilled vegi bruschetta, cremini mushroom, grape tomato, fresh garlic, jalapeño and onion. The olive oil from the bruschetta soaked in nicely. Honestly this is about the best thing I have ever eaten. If I had added my avocado it may have taken the crown, but I'm saving that for my pizza in about an hour and yes I couldn't resist pouring myself a glass of red.
Whole wheat dough, a thin layer of bourbon barbecue sauce, grape and roma tomatoes, cremini mushroom, homegrown habanero, homegrown green pepper, jalapeño, green twist pepper, red suzme pepper, fresh garlic, onion, homegrown basil, carrot, sprinkled with rosemary and finely diced fresh ginger. Topped with raw avocado and some more garlic (total 14 cloves) washed down with cheap fake Heineken and even cheaper Spanish red wine. Also in the mix were 5 types of hot sauce, you know so it wouldn't be too bland

I'm really digging the combo of barbecue sauce and fresh ginger on my pizza
Rosemary roll, vegi bruschetta, cremini mushroom
Evening snack,
Whole wheat pita, fresh onion, jalpeno and cilantro, 3 types of hummus some sriracha, and a few salt and vinagar chips
Soba, Kimchi dumplings, onion cilantro topped with siraachi and ponzu

Kimchi dumplings cooked in the wok with some Jalapeños and onion served with twist peppers, ponzu and sriracha
Garlic basil dough, bourbon barbacue sauce, carrot, onion, garlic, cilantro, basil, jalapeño and avocado.  Maybe more I can't remember
Cooked in a wok I used more water than usual.  It was cold outside and I wanted to drink the broth to warm up.  Bok choy, carrots, Korean Zucchini, onion, broccoli.

I like food  :)

Stuff that becomes poop

Food from the last few nights
Soba, salad, baked salt and vinegar chips with Vino

I'd been running around all day and just spent 2:34 minutes in the sauna I was hungry and looking for instant gratification.  Dinner took me less than 10 minutes to make. It was relatively nutritious and made me very happy.

Simple quick delicious:
Soba, fresh cilantro and onion topped with Ponzu and sriracha
Mixed organic baby greens, grape tomato, carrot, onion, cilantro, garlic, brocolli, tempeh, mung bean sprouts, enoki mushrooms seasoned with olive oil balsamic vinegar and fresh ground pepper

My cooking philosophy is pretty damn simple mucho fresh produce that I know I like, with the occasional variable thrown in.
Trader Joe's was out of whole wheat dough so I got the garlic herb variety. I cooked my pizza with:
grape tomato, onion,  garlic jalapeño,  and enoki mushrooms.  Just before it was done cooking I added cilantro and home grown basil.  After taking it out the oven I topped it with a handful of fresh garlic and a large avocado.  Of course I later added some Sontava, some ghost pepper sauce and another random Jalapeño hot sauce.
You see I like to cook some of the garlic because it creates a nice aroma while it bakes.  However It also takes away from it's potency and some of the health benefits.  Thus adding extra raw garlic after cooking has become part of my routine.
Korean cabbage, organic baby greens, zucuinni, carrot, brocolli, tempeh, garlic, twist pepper, cilantro, onion, enoki mushroom, grape tomato and avocado topped with macadamian nut oil, balsamic vinegar and fresh ground pepper

It was pretty much a perfect dinner. I had no vino left, so I washed it down with some Taurino El Salvadorian beer.

My roommate and I were sitting around watching the Facebook movie.  When I saw him drooling over my pizza, I offered him slice.  I don't think he was ready for how strong the flavor would be.  Now the fat from the avocado neutralizes a lot of the heat and he did not have any hot sauce on his slice but I'm sure their was at least the equivalent of  one fresh and one cooked clove of garlic plus 3 to 6 slices of fresh jalapeño.   His mouth was on fire and and the 24oz can of miller light he just opened disappeared in seconds.  His eyes were watering and his nose was running as he told me how much he enjoyed trying my dinner.

bon appetit
